How it works: Creating Own YMaps

Codewalker allows to extend your map. Open the program, start a new project and be creative. Be careful about area complexes, do not delete them. Test your maps consistently, you might experience some issues (like crashes). However, the most stable maps creations are MLOs. Be sure to always make backups of your server and maps.

Opmerking: Before you begin, make sure you have FiveM and Codewalker installed on your computer.

Detailed Tutorial

Step 1: Install Codewalker

1. Download Codewalker: Visit the official Codewalker website and download the latest version of Codewalker.

2. Install Codewalker: Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to install Codewalker on your computer.

Step 2: Set Up Codewalker

1. Launch Codewalker: Open Codewalker from your desktop shortcut or by searching for it in your programs.

2. Configure Paths: The first time you launch Codewalker, you’ll need to configure some paths. Click on “Tools” in the top menu and select “Settings.”

3. Set Game Path: Click on “Browse” next to the “Game path” field and navigate to your FiveM installation directory. This directory should contain a “citizen” folder.

4. Set Mods Path (Optional): If you have any custom mods or resources for FiveM, you can set the “Mods path” as well.

5. Save Settings: After configuring the paths, click “Save” to save your settings.

Step 3: Create a New Map

1. Click on “File” in the top menu and select “New Map.”

2. Choose a Project Name: Give your map project a name, and select a directory where you want to save your project files. Click “Create” to continue.

Step 4: Import Your Map

1. Now, it’s time to import your custom map. You can either create a new map from scratch or import an existing one. To import an existing map, you’ll need the YMAP file.

2. Click on “File” in the top menu and select “Import YMAP.”

3. Locate and Select YMAP: Navigate to the directory where your YMAP file is located and select it. Click “Open” to import the map.

Step 5: Edit Your Map

1. With your map imported, you can now start editing it. Use the various tools and features in Codewalker to make changes to the map. You can add objects, modify terrain, and much more.

Step 6: Save Your Changes

1. After making your desired changes, click on “File” and select “Save” to save your project.

Step 7: Export the Map for FiveM

1. To use your custom map in FiveM, you need to export it as a resource. Click on “File” and select “Export as Resource.”

2. Choose Export Options: Configure the export options according to your preferences. You’ll need to specify the resource name and description.

3. Export: Click “Export” to create the resource files.

Step 8: Add the Resource to Your FiveM Server

1. Copy the exported resource folder (it will have the name you specified earlier) to your FiveM server’s “resources” folder.

2. Modify the server.cfg file in your server’s main directory and add the resource name to the list of resources to start. For example:
   start your_map_resource_name

3. Save the server.cfg file.

Step 9: Restart Your FiveM Server

1. Restart your FiveM server to apply the changes and load your custom map.

2. Join your server and test the custom map in-game.
