In a move that sent shockwaves through the Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) modding community, Rockstar Games announced its acquisition of CitizenFX Collective, the team behind the popular multiplayer modification platform known as FiveM, in September 2023.
FiveM has long been a haven for modders and gamers looking to create their own custom multiplayer experiences within the GTA V universe. However, with the recent ban on the use of real-brand cars in FiveM servers, coupled with changes in the Terms of Service (ToS), many are left wondering whether the platform is on the brink of extinction.
FiveM Gained Popularity: Due to its Modding Freedom!
FiveM, short for “Five Multiplayer,” has played a significant role in extending the lifespan of GTA V, which was originally released in 2013. The platform allowed players to create their own custom multiplayer servers with unique game modes, custom assets, and a level of freedom that attracted millions of players around the world. It breathed new life into the game, making it a constant presence on Twitch and YouTube, thanks to content creators showcasing their innovative server creations.
The Role of Real-Brand Cars
RIP Real-Brand cars. We know that most of you will miss them. Yes, one of the key elements that contributed to FiveM’s popularity was its support for real-brand cars within player-created servers. Players could mod and import real-world vehicle models into their servers, enhancing the overall immersion and diversity of experiences. This feature allowed players to create role-playing servers that closely resembled real-life scenarios, like police chases, street racing, and more. This is not allowed anymore and servers will get banned. :(
The Ban on Real-Brand Cars and Updated ToS
The acquisition by Rockstar Games has brought about a significant change that has left many players disheartened. Rockstar announced a ban on the use of real-brand cars in FiveM servers, citing copyright concerns and the need to protect its intellectual property. This decision effectively cuts off a major avenue of creativity and realism for FiveM server owners and players. Moreover, the updated ToS explicitly state that modded real-brand cars are not allowed anymore, putting an end to an era of modding that defined the platform for many players.
If you are a server owner: Remove all branded mods (cars, clothes, and more!)
So, Is FiveM Eventually Dying?
The ban on real-brand cars and the changes in the ToS have sparked concern within the FiveM community about the platform’s future. Many worry that without the ability to use real-brand cars, a significant portion of the player base may migrate to other platforms or games that offer a more flexible modding environment. The appeal of FiveM has always been its ability to provide players with a sandbox where they can unleash their creativity, and this ban feels like a direct contradiction to that spirit.
On the other hand, some argue that FiveM will adapt and evolve. The modding community has proven to be resourceful in the past, and they may find ways to work around the ban or create custom vehicle models that are distinct enough to avoid copyright issues. Rockstar may also reconsider its stance and find a compromise that allows for the use of real-brand cars within certain limits.
What do you think? – Will FiveM die soon?

Our own opinion
We understand that real-brand cars were important for the FiveM community. And it’s really frustrating to see that Rockstar bans those… But: We think that FiveM will be great anyway. We miss the times where modding was “not punished” and people could do whatever they want… Maybe you remember this tweet:
We will wait and see what unfolds. We encourage all server owners to read the FiveM forums and stay informed about the Terms of Service to avoid server bans.

Conclusion
The acquisition of FiveM by Rockstar Games, coupled with the ban on real-brand cars and the updated ToS, have certainly raised questions about the platform’s future. While it may seem like a bleak moment for FiveM enthusiasts, it’s important to remember that the modding community is known for its resilience and creativity. Whether FiveM can adapt to these new changes or if it will face a decline in popularity remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the passion for modding and custom multiplayer experiences in the GTA V universe will continue to drive innovation in the gaming world. Time will tell whether this change will be the end of FiveM as we know it or the beginning of a new chapter in its evolution.

And etc. Just see what rockstar did to us… FiveM will prob die soon. After what they done. Like why can’t they just make their own cars? Like LEO, FD, and etc?

Well, you can make your own cars (no real brands though), but you’re not allowed to use real brands
